Arena Mode in Acts of Blood is a separate, wave-based combat challenge built around surviving enemies, earning high scores, and chasing ranks. Unlike the Story Mission, it is not about reaching Jagal or advancing Hendra’s revenge. You fight successive groups in dedicated arenas, improve your performance, and work toward several of the demo’s Steam achievements.

That gives Arena Mode a purpose beyond practising combos. It is where you can aim for an S, SS, or SSS rank, build a large kill total, and learn how long you can control a crowd without losing the fight.

How Arena Mode Works

In the Story Mission, you move through the factory and fight your way toward Jagal. Arena removes that journey and puts combat front and centre. Instead of following mission objectives, you deal with enemies arriving in waves and try to build a strong run.

The demo’s arena selection has expanded over time. Factory Pyramid Arena is named in a developer update, while players have also discussed Rooftop Arena and Prison Arena. A later update introduced two additional arena levels and a wave system. The available selection may therefore differ from older videos and guides.

The best arena is not always the one with the most room. Open space makes incoming enemies easier to spot, while walls, obstacles, and edges change how you handle a crowd. Try a few stages and notice where enemies approach from, where you tend to get trapped, and whether the layout gives you room to recover after a missed attack.

What Do S, SS, and SSS Mean?

S, SS, and SSS are performance ranks, not character levels or difficulty settings. They represent increasingly ambitious Arena goals, and each rank has its own Steam achievement. SSS is the highest target.

The game emphasises high scores, but no current scoring formula or exact threshold for each rank is published. Do not assume that a particular kill count guarantees SSS. Players have reported long attack streaks during high-scoring runs, which makes sustained offense worth practising, but positioning matters more than forcing one more risky strike.

If you are pushing for a higher rank, focus on clean attacks without losing awareness of the rest of the group. Keep a combo going only while you can control it; dodge or reposition when the next enemy closes in.

All Five Arena Achievements

The Acts of Blood demo has 10 Steam achievements in total, and five are tied to Arena Mode. Three reward your best rank, while the other two set kill-count goals.

Achievement Requirement
Skilled Fighter Achieve an S rank in Arena Mode.
Combat Veteran Achieve an SS rank in Arena Mode.
Arena Overlord Achieve an SSS rank in Arena Mode.
100 Bloodbath Kill 100 enemies in Arena Mode.
Mark of the Devil Kill 666 enemies in Arena Mode.

The rank achievements give you clear performance milestones, while the kill challenges reward longer-term persistence. Community score discussions include runs with hundreds of kills, including 666-kill attempts. The achievement text does not say whether those totals can be spread across several runs, so check your current Steam progress rather than relying on an assumed cumulative counter.

The other five achievements concern the apartment, outfits, the factory mission, Jagal, and experiencing your first death. You can start working toward Arena-specific achievements without completing Story objectives.

How to Survive Longer and Improve Your Rank

Arena fights become harder to manage when you commit to one enemy and lose sight of everyone else. Finish a short exchange, check your surroundings, and move before the next attacker gets behind Hendra. Long combo strings are worth learning, but never at the expense of positioning.

Use the push to make space. It was added for crowd control and can reset a fight when several enemies close in at once. Follow it with movement instead of immediately charging back into the same group. Controls have changed during demo development, so confirm the current input in the key-mapping menu.

Watch for brutes and ranged enemies. Larger opponents can grapple Hendra; repeatedly pressing the counter input escapes the brute grapple. Ranged attackers present a different problem: staying locked onto a nearby enemy can leave you exposed to shots from across the arena. Break off and reposition when the crowd stops being manageable.

Be selective with weapons. A quick melee weapon fits a brief exchange, a heavy weapon needs a safer opening, and a firearm gives you reach. None is the best pick for every wave. If your unarmed rhythm already works, use pickups when they solve a specific problem instead of holding one by default. Read the Acts of Blood weapons guide for ammo, durability, throws, and environmental attacks.

For an SSS attempt, prioritise a controlled, repeatable run before experimenting with elaborate attacks. For the kill achievements, focus on staying alive and choosing a layout you can navigate comfortably. The combat and combo system guide covers the punches, kicks, counters, and finishers that make those runs more consistent.

How Arena Mode Relates to Story Mode

Arena and Story are separate activities in the demo, not two stages of the same campaign mission. Story follows Hendra into the factory and leads to Jagal; Arena is a repeatable combat-and-score challenge. Clearing waves in Arena does not complete the factory mission or replace the Jagal encounter.

The two modes share the same fighting systems: punches, kicks, counters, dodges, weapons, and crowd-control moves. Techniques you learn in Arena transfer naturally to Story, even though an Arena score and rank have their own goals.

The demo does have level XP progression and a skill tree, with upgrades accessed from the Hub. The public notes do not establish whether Arena kills award character XP, whether XP is shared with Story, or whether resulting upgrades carry between both modes. If progression sharing matters to your run, compare Hendra’s XP and unlocked skills in the Hub before and after an Arena session.

Arena ranks and achievements belong to the demo’s own set of goals. They should not be read as a promise about the full game’s reward structure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Arena Mode Advance the Main Story?

No. Arena is a separate combat challenge. To progress through the demo story, play the factory mission and face Jagal.

Can You Earn XP in Arena and Use It in Story Mode?

The demo includes XP progression and skill upgrades, but the published notes do not settle whether XP earned in Arena carries into Story or whether upgrades are shared. Check Hub values before and after a run if you need to know for your save.

How Do You Get an SSS Rank?

SSS is the highest of the demo’s three rank-achievement targets. Keep up your offense while avoiding unnecessary hits and lost positioning. Players report success with long attack streaks, but the scoring thresholds are not published.

Which Achievements Require Arena Mode?

Skilled Fighter, Combat Veteran, Arena Overlord, 100 Bloodbath, and Mark of the Devil. The first three require S, SS, and SSS ranks; the other two require 100 and 666 Arena kills.

How Many Arena Levels Are in the Demo?

Developer updates document Factory Pyramid Arena and the later addition of two more levels. Older player discussions also mention Rooftop and Prison arenas. Use the level menu in the installed demo for the current selection.
